What is it about?

Data from the UK is used to demonstrate that deaths show an extended time-series of on/off switching, i.e. deaths stay high for a period of 12 months before reverting back to the baseline. This behavior shows spatial spread consistent with an infectious outbreak.

Why is it important?

On/off switching in deaths has not been previously reported, presumably because no one thought that it was possible.

Perspectives

Interestingly both deaths and medical admissions show parallel on/off switching. This is part of a longer series of papers, see http://www.hcaf.biz/2010/Publications_Full.pdf
