What is it about?
Occupational risk assessments in construction are often communicated in a static way that is hard for workers to interpret, which can harm the safety climate on site. This study proposes the Level of Preventive Action methodology, which assesses risks during construction processes and safety in work areas, and adds communication criteria to determine the safety climate. It combines a quantitative environment (numerical values for factors such as the complexity of the work, exposure to risk and safety measures), a qualitative environment (linguistic criteria based on the worker's location and behaviour) and a congruent environment that brings both together.

Why is it important?
The approach aims to make the communication of preventive control more effective on construction sites. It draws on neuroscience, communication and social behaviour, and is supported by BIM technology and artificial intelligence, using body and zone sensors to monitor and optimise the interaction between workers and machines.
Perspectives
This interdisciplinary work with colleagues in construction engineering combines safety research with my background in language and communication. It was a rewarding collaboration across very different fields.
