What is it about?
Like translating in general, self-translating can either be a way of upgrading (into a language perceived as prestigious or powerful) or of downloading work (into globally or locally less prestigious or powerful languages.) This article illustrates the underlying politics, using the example of Spain, both yesterday (15th-16th centuries) and today (20th-21st centuries.)
