What is it about?

We evaluated the composition of Kilis goat milk in two different seasons on the basis of alcohols, ketones, aldehydes, esters, indoles, carboxylic acids, aromatic hydrocarbons and terpenes. Milk samples were collected at the early and late lactation periods from Hatay and Kilis, Turkey.

Why is it important?

We found that the composition of milk obtained from Kilis goats was significantly affected by the lactation period and location. Goat milk grown in Kilis showed a better profile than Hatay milk in terms of total dry matter, fat, protein, unsaturated fat, alcohol, ketones and carboxylic acids. The volatile acid profile of milk varies depending on the origin of the animal.

Perspectives

Adequate feeding strategies for milk goats are important to improve the nutritional value of the milk and to increase economic gains
