Why is it important?
This study is important in showing that the criteria of what makes something newsworthy in Malaysian sports newspapers, such as negativity, does not actually match what readers’ expect when they read news.
Perspectives
I think it’s fair to say that the Malaysian media loves to sensationalize the negative aspects in the sports world while placing a lot of weight on glory in sports. Although this may make people pick up a newspaper to read the content, it however is disappointing because it is not exactly giving the readers’ what they want from the papers. Newspaper should be a platform for information and not a place for over sensationalized issues, especially in sports.
