What is it about?

This paper is a review of what we know about the impact of sulphates on concrete durability. As well as summarising the extent of our knowledge, the paper presents some pointers as to how those researching sulphate attack can better simulate the deterioration within a useful time period.

Why is it important?

It is a nice introduction to the topic, while also (hopefully) guiding future researchers away from some of the pitfalls of accelerated ageing.

Perspectives

This was a paper which came out of Mark Whittaker's PhD. He, basically, wanted other students and researchers to know of some of the limitations of accelerated ageing, so made sure that this review article also covered potential pitfalls.
