What is it about?

Friction can be reduced by thin film coatings or additives, but also by metallurgy under slip-rolling. Uncoated molybdenum or silicon alloyed steels have significant lower coefficients of friction under mixed-boundary conditions and slip-rolling. They are slip-rolling resistant and offer the same load carrying capacity as reference alloys, like 100Cr6 (SAE 52100 ) or 20MnCr5.
