What is it about?
This review article examines how engineers measure load transfer (LT) capacity in Portland Cement Concrete Pavements (PCCPs) – a key factor in pavement durability and performance. Load transfer refers to how a concrete slab shares weight with adjacent slabs at joints and cracks. The paper critically evaluates existing field-testing methods (e.g., Falling Weight Deflectometer) and identifies gaps in current practices. It then proposes a framework for more accurate, practical, and advanced field-evaluation techniques to assess LT capacity under real-world conditions.
