What is it about?

The paper disclosed that more constitute elements make the alloy with lower modulus, this is because the entropy contribution to the modulus usually is negative, and a parameter of entropy of mixing over the nethalpy of mixing is proposed to evaluate the entropy of the alloys.

Why is it important?

The phase change of the TixCoCrFeNiCu1−yAly HEAs is closely related to the atomic packing efficiency (APE) of the phases. The definition of the high entropy of the solid solution alloys should be compared with the enthalpy of mixing, and = 1000 Smix / Hmix 1 is proposed as the criteria for the HEAs.

Perspectives

The mixing of Ti and Al is usually forming ordered intermetallics, it is brittle at room temperature, the addition with the transit metals, such as , Fe, Co,Ni, and Cu, which will play as a buffer, reduce the strong attractive interraction between the Ti and Al, atoms.
