What is it about?

The importance of having large scale chambers where preparation of layers and its control by in-situ tests in-situ tests can be performed, aiming to anticipate problems on field applications and create a link between laboratory and industrial working conditions. Compaction control, plate load tests and falling weight tests were performed over the layers of a soil stabilized by alkali activated cement.

Why is it important?

The experimental work illustrates the advantages of having an intermediate scale between laboratory testing and in-situ applications, which allows for testing considerable volumes of material in controlled conditions without having significant scale problems. In the present case, it gave a good insight of the field problems in construction of treated layers and the best options to control the execution and final performance.
