What is it about?

This study is involved with evaluating the effects of openings on lateral behavior of masonry infilled frames. Because of their high stiffness, masonry infills could affect the center of mass and stiffness in skeletal structures. It is also evident opening could decrease the final stiffness and lateral behavior of surrounding frames. Our study is involved with to which extent the opening percentage could affect the behavior of the complex of masonry walls and RC frames.

Why is it important?

The behavioral content of masonry wall depends on numerous parameters including aspect ratio, mortar properties, masonry units' properties, geometry of the units, span length and many other parameters. Adding of openings to this complex will increase the complexity of masonry infilled frames. Also, lateral behavior of masonry infills specially the infills with opening had lack of focus in literature. Hence, the behavior of masonry infills become hard to predict. This study evaluates the lateral behavior of masonry infills with openings located at the center of intermediate RC moment frames.

Perspectives

I am very glad that, we finally publish this paper. I hope that, the article will be useful for the researchers who are active in the field of masonry structures.
