What is it about?

We modified the commonly used Dynamic Shear Rheometer (DSR) to measure cement paste rheology. DSR is commonly used to measure asphalt rheological properties.

Why is it important?

Cement paste rheological properties are fundamental properties related to actual workability. Measuring cement paste rheology during mix design process is the fundamental way to detect any cement-admixture incompatibilities and detect problematic mixes before placing the concrete in the field and avoid placing bad concrete (if this is the case) and save cost.

Perspectives

There are plenty of published research on measuring cement paste rheology using sophisticated rheometer / viscometer under controlled lab conditions. However, we know that there is a difference between lab testing based recommendations and field applications. This work is a good attempt to develop something which can be applied to the field and facilitate technology deployment
