What is it about?

Maraging steel is known and used for its high strength. However, the steel is to be processed under closely controlled conditions to exploit this advantage. This manuscript gives the predictive capability for choice of appropriate processing parameters to gainfully avail it's superior features, through modelling studies.

Why is it important?

Experimental work to establish the response of the steel to heat treatment is time consuming and also expensive. The modelling study reported here spares such experimental work, in addition to generating an understanding of the underlying mechanisms.


The work was carried out as part of a doctoral research by Mr Rohit Benjamin, a scholar pursuing his PhD program under my supervision. He brought out that different modelling approaches are available to satisfactorily predict the response of the steel to thermal treatments. I do hope that the work kindles much interest among researchers in the area.
