What is it about?

structural health of a chosen bridge which is 20 years old is done by recording the response of its vibrations through accelerometer sensors.the sensors has been integrated with wireless sensor motes that are capable of forming a network and hence provision of sensed data to base station. The recorded signal are then subjected to advanced signal processing techniques including FFT with wiener filtering and Hilbert Huang Transform for energy frequency analysis to discriminate between the healthy and unhealthy parts of under study harbour bridge located in karachi,Pakistan

Why is it important?

Structural health monitoring is of prime importance to access the health condition of structures or they may collapse all of a sudden. This hectic monitoring is simplified via WSN motes sonnet need of long costly cables. All sensors have been interfaced with motes that are capable of transmitting wirelessly on real time

Perspectives

Writing this article is of great pleasure to introduce this novel idea of SHM to readers.Hanging bridges were mostly monitored and its the first time a concrete bridge structure from a third world country is being tested for its health.
