What is it about?

How are Pastoral Care and Spiritual Care related to each other? Are they still the same as in the past - what are the differences and intersections? Spiritual Care is highlighted as an important dimension for all health care professions in their work with patients and their families or relatives; and there is a responsible role of pastoral ministry in the advancement of Spiritual Care independent from religious denominations.

Why is it important?

There has been controversy about the role of both: Spiritual Care by health professionals and Pastoral Care by pastoral ministers are not rivals and competitors but allies for better service to patients and their spiritual needs, and to overcome the neglect of the spiritual dimension in health care.

Perspectives

This interview contributes to an ecumenical dialogue and understanding of Spiritual Care and its relationship to Pastoral Care.
