What is it about?
Hedges and boosters as means for expression of certainty and commitment are very important in academic discourse as they help writers to persuade readers to accept their claim. Authors from different cultures tend to follow different approaches in using these devices due to the conventions they have been taught. In this paper I explain the differences between the way in which Czech and Anglophone authors use hedges and boosters.

Why is it important?
Knowledge about the differences between different cultural conventions in the use of hedges and boosters can help university students and young researchers from non-Anglophone background to build a persuasive argumentation in their academic texts and increases their chances of performing well at university and publish their research in academic journals and collections.
Perspectives
My perspective is that writers' awareness of the possibilities to combine hedges and boosters in different sections of their texts is crucial to the persuasiveness of their papers.
