What is it about?

The work measures how much loss is caused by sweet potato weevils in sweet potato production. Various levels of damages caused by weevils and other pests were recorded. It was observed that, sweet potato weevils were the main cause of yield loss in sweet potato production. The study tries to use each level of damage to predict the amount of yield reduction.

Why is it important?

The study can help sweet potato researchers to focus much on weevil resistance as an important trait when evaluating sweet potato varieties. Some varieties can be high yielding but their susceptibility to sweet potato weevils can make such varieties useless.

Perspectives

In my perspective, this study can be an eye-opener to sweet potato producers about the destructive nature of sweet potato weevils. The effects of these pests on sweet potato productions should never be over looked.
