In this chapter language convergence in an areal perspective has been explained, with a focus on conceptual, lexical, and semantic convergence in the region of MSEA

Why is it important?
Without high-quality material on the major languages of MSEA, further investigation of the numerous existing varieties and dialects is difficult.
Perspectives
One of the future research needs, although not just in areal linguistics, is the more extensive and detailed documentation and study of minority languages as the study of undescribed small languages can give us new insights into the make-up of linguistic areas.
