What is it about?

This paper examines reviews of dictionaries published by the journal LexicoNordica from about 2002 to about 2016. The findings show that dictionary reviews (not review articles) are generally thorough academic texts of a high quality and that reviewers address several relevant topics in their reviews.

Why is it important?

The findings show that reviewers (and journal editors) value informative and academic reviews and that dictionary reviews are merely derivative work but genuine academic texts.

Perspectives

The survey will hopefully encourage reviewers of dictionaries to write proper academic texts and not merely restate the back cover texts of dictionaries. This may help gaining recognition for their academic work.
