What is it about?

Polonium is highly toxic to lung tissue. We have developed a new method to measure the content in plant and other materials. The activity concentrations found in Indian tobaccos have been converted into dose rates using proven conversion factors.

Why is it important?

The new method allows a much higher sample throughput.

Perspectives

With the new method a much larger number of samples may be investigated. This is important taking into account the increased role natural radionuclides have received during the past years
