What is it about?

The genetic variability and genetic relationship between grain yield and some morphological and quality characters in spring wheat lines and cultivars were investigated.

Why is it important?

Regarding the genetic parameters, grain yield and grain hardness were recorded with high heritability, genetic advance and genetic advance as a percent of the mean values. High heritability in broad sense values indicates that the environment fewer influences the characters understudy in their expression. Therefore, the wheat breeders may make superior genotypes selection based on phenotypic performance for these characters.

Perspectives

In this study, the genotypic path coefficient analysis revealed that seed weight, earing days and plant height performances should be considered in the selection of spring wheat breeding programs for rapid improvement of grain yield.
