What is it about?

This paper explores the risk of natural disasters, focusing on young females exposed to these events, especially in small municipalities in Japan. The result showed that young females exposed to flooding tend to the areas with a higher proportion of habitable land, inland regions, and locations abundant in rivers and lakes.

Why is it important?

Understanding and reducing the risk of natural disasters is crucial for maintaining the economy and society. Since Japan is a disaster-prone country and the most advanced nation in the world regarding aging and population decline, it necessitates a natural disaster risk analysis that considers both challenges.

Perspectives

I hope this paper encourages more stakeholders to consider disaster risks and implement home countermeasures. When choosing a home, many people tend to prioritize convenience and cost over disaster risk mitigation. Although implementing effective disaster risk countermeasures might involve short-term costs, they ultimately add value that outweighs those expenses in the long run.
