What is it about?

Why is it important?
• The prevalence of IUGR was highly dependent on the standards used for its definition ranging from 4.2 to 11.8%; Neonatal trisomy 21 and maternal addiction, eclampsia/pre-eclampsia and chronic hypertension showed the strongest positive associations while maternal gestational diabetes was the strongest protector against it. • Since IUGR prevalence highly depends on the definition and standard used for its diagnosis, a great need exists for a unified practical standard for its definition around the word to make comparison and measuring the effects of interventions possible. Our results showed that IUGR prevalence can nearly triple in the same sample using a different standard making judgment extremely complicated.
