What is it about?
Poisoning in children has been a global issue in the recent years. The analysis of the records was carried out to determine the profile of the poisoning among children in the National Poison Centre of Malaysia. We retrospectively reviewed the records of all cases of poisoning among children below the age of 18 years, and over a period of 10 years from 2006 to 2015. The data was analysed according to the age, gender, the circumstances and the toxic agent.

Why is it important?
As our findings showed that poisoning in children between the age of 13 to 18 years was mainly intentional, and pharmaceutical and household agents were responsible for more than two-thirds of the poisoning cases. We think it is quite important for parents and guardians to educate themselves about the preventive measures in order to mitigate the situation in the future. Most of these incidents could have been avoided if protective measures had taken place properly.
Perspectives
This article clearly shows how poisoning is becoming more and more common among families and individuals. By taking the opportunity of contributing to this work and representing the data in a simple and clear way has been of an extreme privilege. The impact of the described problem was profound among people in the community, and it would be really crucial to raise awareness among them, as well as the societies to be more cautious and serious while dealing with this issue in the future.
