What is it about?

Staff members of Lake Central School Corporation in St. John, Indiana, were tested for Covid antibodies in July of 2020. Limited personal and professional staff data were collected. 1.7% of the staff tested positive for Covid antibodies. The strongest links to a positive antibody test were: 1. a previous positive Covid test, and 2. exposure to a Covid positive individual.

Why is it important?

At the time of analysis, little data were available to quantify the spread of Covid in public schools. This type of data was necessary to make responsible decisions about the reopening of schools.

Perspectives

Leading this study with my two peers was a one-of-a-kind learning experience as a high school senior. It was a great opportunity to work with such a talented and diverse group of mentors to achieve something of significance. As one of our contributors mentioned, we were able to turn the most disruptive episode in education in the last hundred years into the greatest learning opportunity of our lives.
