What is it about?

We developed a procedure to select the minimum number of individuals from which we construct maps of radiation levels that they were exposed to. This was done for many US cities under a wide variety of conditions. The purpose was to use the results of blood tests indicating the amount of radiation they absorbed and to estimate the radiation levels between these individuals on a map.

Why is it important?

Knowing these radiation levels can be used to determine the locations where individuals would most benefit from therapies for radiation overexposure.

Perspectives

This has not been done before, and would be essential to expedite testing and treatment in a radiation emergency.
