Identification of hepatic protein-protein interaction targets for betaine homocysteine S-methyltransferase

What is it about?

Using affinity purification plus mass spectrometry and yeast two-hybrid we have identified a number of proteins involved in interactions with BHMT in normal liver. Several of the se interactions have been further validated by coimmunoprecipitation. Thus, new crosswalks between the methionine/homocysteine cycle and pathways have been uncovered.

Why is it important?

The new data reported in this article uncover new relationships between the methionine and homocysteine metabolism and other metabolic pathways in normal liver that may be impaired under pathological situations.
