What is it about?
Paraxial approximation is used to examine the relationship between the axial position of a thick intraocular lens (IOL) and its thin lens equivalent as a function of lens-thickness, lens-shape, lens refractive power, corneal refractive power and the thin-lens position.

Why is it important?
The relationship between thick- and thin-lens optics can be helpful to improve intraocular lens power-calculations, optimization of intraocular lens constants, ray-tracing simulations, manufacturing of reliable IOL optics design.
