What is it about?

Transposon silencing in the animal germline is regarded as the major function of Piwi proteins and their guiding piRNAs. However, we found evidence for Piwi mediated post-transcriptional regulation of protein-coding genes in pig and other mammlian species, which is facilitated by gene or pseudogene containing genomic piRNA clusters.
