Understanding activity of ferrets infected with influenza

What is it about?

Ferrets are the ideal model of influenza infection. Understanding their activity level post infection can be difficult. In this study, we use video-tracking as an alternative to conventional observation and found that video-tracking is more sensitive to detect changes in activity of ferrets post influenza infection. Large potential for application to other ferret model of infections such as SARS-CoV, Hendra virus and Nipah virus.

Why is it important?

Improved method to understand the effect of pathogenesis on activity level of influenza virus infection in ferrets. Less bias and simple methodology which can be easily apply in other laboratory settings.
