What is it about?

Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) have been around for a long time and draw substantial amount of funds from national health budgets in developing countries. This study looked at how the COVID-19 pandemic affected how STI health services were accessed and delivered to young people. With all the public health measures put in place to reduce transmission such is social distancing, did STI cases increase or decrease during the pandemic?

Why is it important?

This work highlights the urgent need to safeguard access, availability and delivery of STI health services during public health emergencies and build resilient systems that protect sexual and reproductive health rights even in times of crisis.

Perspectives

While writing this article, I realized that public health policies aimed at reducing the spread of COVID-19 affected access, availability and delivery of STI health services and products to young adults.
