What is it about?
In 2018, FIND implemented a decentralized model of care for VL in Turkana County, Kenya. This study sought to assess the barriers and facilitators to care; perspectives of VL patients/caregivers and healthcare workers five years after implementation.

Why is it important?
The study provides empirical findings that can be used for adoption of the model. The identified barriers need to be carefully addressed within the program implementation plan for successful elimination of VL in Kenya. The facilitators present strong promotive factors that should be enhanced within the program intervention package.
Perspectives
The findings are crucial to all programs implementing interventions indicating the crucial need for baseline studies before intervention rollout to address understand community perspective and address any barriers for the success of the intervention.
