What is it about?
Life stage appropriate mental health support interventions can improve clinical outcomes among adolescents with HIV, however such interventions have been limited to high income contexts, yet HIV prevalence is highest in low income contexts. We have shown how to adapt evidence based psychosocial support for use in a low income setting.

Why is it important?
We elaborate the process of working with key stakeholders in the HIV care continuum to adapt an evidence based psychosocial intervention for cultural saliency and contextual relevancy. We further demonstrate how adaptation can increase acceptability of an intervention among potential users and providers.
Perspectives
Writing this article gave an opportunity to connect science with reality. I was able to understand why things we might consider trivial make a lot of sense to others. This article creates a road map for other researchers who might want to introduce new therapies for use in a Ugandan context.
