What is it about?

We advocate that attribution science has advanced to the stage where statements about the human influence of a wide class of extreme weather events can rapidly be made with substantial confidence.

Why is it important?

Extreme weather event attribution informs the public and decisionmakers about the climate change influence on weather events and their impacts. Operationalizing the process will inform the public while they are still paying attention.

Perspectives

Dangerous climate change is already here and is demonstrated by the frequency and severity of recent extreme weather throughout the planet. Rapid event attribution raises awareness of this danger.
