What is it about?
Why fertility declines with age is a major question in reproductive medicine. This study shows that an aging marker, p16, accumulates in ovarian support cells rather than eggs and is linked to reduced fertility and poorer pregnancy outcomes. These findings identify p16 as a potential biomarker of ovarian aging and suggest new strategies to improve reproductive health in aging women.

Why is it important?
Our observations highlight somatic cell senescence as a key factor in ovarian aging and a potential target for future interventions.
Perspectives
Future research on the efficacy of senolytic approaches that eliminate p16-positive senescent cells to improve ovarian function.
