Understanding Vitamin D deficiency among front line health care workers

Featured Image

Why is it important?

Vitamin D deficiency is known to have serious health effects. Increasing the risk of poor outcome if suffering from respiratory tract infection including Covid 19. Frontline health workers are often exposed to these infections. Having a low Vitamin d level will affect health workers seriously.

Perspectives

This research unearthed a significant issue of" How our front line health workers during Covid 19 pandemic suffered from low Vitamin D levels". Even though a simple solution of offering blood measurement and regular oral supplements were available it was not practiced. No health care policy has identified and offered support to health workers to improve their Vitamin D deficiency. This situation has caused poor outcome among many health workers. We would like to request policy makers to address this issue by offering testing and treatment for frontline health workers similar to vaccination programs.
