What is it about?

Workers can help protect their well-being by growing their digital confidence and being more mindful when using technology for work. We surveyed and interviewed workers about their negative experiences of workplace technology (e.g. technostress, overload, anxiety) and the effect they have on their health and well-being.

Why is it important?

Since the global pandemic, remote and hybrid work styles have become increasingly widespread. Working in the digital workplace can enable greater flexibility and autonomy for workers, but it can also come with some pitfalls in terms of their well-being. Technology-related stress, anxiety and overload can lead to higher burnout and poorer health. It's therefore important for workers to have a toolkit of resources to help them be productive and thrive in the digital workplace. Our research demonstrates that digital mindfulness and confidence are valuable resources in this toolkit. Organisations should also consider how to support employees in this respect.
