The study aimed to investigate the effects of foliar application of γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) on the growth and physiological characteristics of Capsicum annuum L. (sweet pepper) under drought stress conditions. The results showed that GABA application significantly improved vegetative growth attributes such as shoot and root length, fresh and dry weight, root-shoot ratio, and relative water content, while reducing electrolyte leakage. GABA treatment also increased chlorophyll content, carotenoids content, soluble protein content, soluble sugars content, total proline content, and antioxidant enzyme activity. Among the GABA treatments, the 2mM concentration showed the most pronounced improvements in morphological traits and biochemical composition. The study concluded that GABA application can enhance the development and productivity of sweet pepper under drought stress conditions. GABA treatment improved the levels of osmolytes and the activities of antioxidant enzymes involved in defense mechanisms. These findings suggest that GABA has potential as a protective agent against drought stress in sweet pepper crops.
