What is it about?

Mutagenesis a process in which plants are treated with different mutagens to improve the yield. Here we used gamma rays and sodium azide to assess the optimum mutagen dose that can be used to improve the cowpea cultivars. It also can be used to improve other warm season legumes.

Why is it important?

It is important to cope up with the changes associated with continuous climate change. Example1 The optimum doses of gamma rays and sodium azide can be used to improve agronomy of not cowpea but other legumes as well. Example 2 Here we showed the effects of different mutagen doses on the spectrum and frequency of chromosomal aberrations.

Perspectives

This work is important resource platform for young mutation breeders as it provides insights into mutagenic dose optimisation.
