What is it about?

Antibiotics, which are widely used, have received little attention. The economic impact of SF medications owing to low-quality drugs was projected to be between $10 and $200 billion. Quality studies conducted in low- and middle-income countries, of which 265 investigations were reported, revealed a significant frequency of poor-quality essential medicine. A total of 12.4% of antibiotics were discovered to be of poor quality. The medicine markets flooded with a large number of counterfeit medicinal products in the world due to ineffective regulation and lack of market authorization. Poor quality antibiotics threaten the management of bacterial infections and lead to the growth of antibiotic resistance. Antibiotics deteriorate faster in resource limited countries due to poor storage, and harsh tropical climate conditions. To counteract this effect, drug quality evaluation should be practiced.

Why is it important?

Every pharmaceutical practitioner needs to know information regarding drug quality on a daily basis, but it's also crucial for everyone because drugs aren't like regular food, their quality needs to be guaranteed for the benefit of human or animal life. If a drug is not certified, the health system won't function properly because of the costs involved in rebuilding it, which is detrimental for the government as well. Almost 40% of the national budget is spent on health, primarily on pharmaceuticals

This article served as my postgraduate thesis project from Jimma University Ethiopia, which granted me a certified master's degree in pharmaceutical Quality assurance and Regulatory Affairs.
