What is it about?

Network density refers to the number of connections between nodes within a network. We show that how network density affects the process of two kinds of knowledge transfer regimes, namely, explore and exploit. The result showsthat forexplorativeinnovation,high network densityis more conducive to improving innovation efficiency, and for exploitative innovation, low network density is more conducive to improving innovation efficiency. However, when network density is small enough to destroy network connectivity, it will lead to a large risk of innovation failure.

Why is it important?

We clarify the role of network density in the process of innovaiton. and shed lights on the choice of innvation strategies of innovatior and the formulaiton policies of innovation policy makers.

Perspectives

In this study, I used the classical random network model to capture the density characteristics of the network, and the multi-agent simulation method to build the knowledge flow mechanism on the innovation network, and combined the two to explore the relationship between them. I'm very pleased to see that this design has helped us to solve the research question well. I hope we can use this idea to solve more academic problems in the future.
