What is it about?

During the early period after infectious carriers of COVID-19 are located in novel regions, lockdowns are not effective if the population is evenly distributed, but can be if a large proportion of infectious carriers are found in sparsely populated areas.

Why is it important?

Governmental decisions on enforcing lockdowns should adopt a more targeted approach that accounts for whether regions are composed of sparsely or highly populated areas.


We hope that the main message of our work which promotes a refined lockdown strategy is of interest to governmental agencies, policy makers and the general public.
