What is it about?
Vision is critical for children’s development, but visual impairment are common in children with special educational needs (SEN), which may be related to their functional deficits. We evaluated the vision, body balance, and basic cognitive functions of 104 SEN children in a community service project.

Why is it important?
Visual impairment has been found to be a factor affecting the body balance and basic cognitive function in SEN children. Although being common, many of the correctable vision loss are undetected or neglected, which may lead to daily difficulties in SEN children. Eye exam and vision management are important to minimize the chance of vision loss retarding their development.
Perspectives
The aim of research is to create knowledge, leading to a betterment of mankind. This is an invaluable opportunity for us to incorporate a research study into a community project to serve the children in need.
