What is it about?
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) small non-coding RNAs 18–23 nucleotides in length, and play a critical role in multiple aspects of biology via repression of specific gene expression. We have identified testicular germ cell-specific miRNAs, and they play a crucial role in proliferation and differentiation of sperm stem cells via repression of a specific signaling pathway.

Why is it important?
Sperm stem cells, namely spermatogonia ensure continuous sperm production throughout ones’ life of males. Our study shows an important molecular basis for life-long stable sperm production, by which animals including human enable to prosper their descendants.
