What is it about?
Knowing the composition of the brain in terms of functional cell-types is essential to eventually decipher the Brain computing capacity. We estimate such composition by mapping functional cell-types (i.e. describing morphology and electrophysiology) to molecular markers (e.g. PV, VIP, SST) and applying the resulting mapping to an atlas of molecularly identifed cell types. The resulting estimates can be used to explore the differential composition across brain regions and hint towards the role that functional cell types plays for the overall function of their brain region.

Why is it important?
We bridged two well established classifications of rodent cortical neurons: molecular markers on one side and functional (i.e. morpho-electrical) types on the other side. The composition estimates can be used as a basis for differential composition analysis across brain regions and for more detailed simulation of whole brain neural activity.
