What is it about?

This publication aims to increase awareness of ticks and the risk of Lyme disease in primary care for the nurse practitioner in an evidence-based way. Management of tick bites is included, including tick removal. The evidence base for treatment of early uncomplicated Lyme disease in Primary Care is summarised.

Why is it important?

Awareness of the risk from tick bites, and early diagnosis and treatment of Lyme disease is key to primary and secondary prevention of Lyme disease. Earlier treatment in the first few weeks and months id usually successful, whereas diagnosis and treatment of late-stage Lyme disease may be challenging.
