This paper is about the benefit of increasing fitness and activity levels prior to any medical intervention. This can reduce complications and reduce hospital stays. The evidence shows the likely benefits. So why is this not routine?

Why is it important?

With our ageing population and increased healthcare costs it is vital that we find ways to help address this. Prehab is a simple effective way of helping reduce costs and empower people to improve their outcomes and redue complications.

Perspectives

As a Physiotherapist I strongly feel that this is an area that we can actively be engaged to help people become proactive in their care and give them the tools to improve their likely outcomes from surgery whether it be Orthopaedic or Oncology
