Why is it important?

We found that nurses believe checking blood glucose in hospital to be important. However, those who are more experienced or are clinical nurse educators, as a group believe such checking to be less important than less experienced nurses. This suggests that educating nursing staff on the relevance and importance of blood glucose checking while designing or implementing a glucose management program is crucial. It also has implications for the recruitment of 'glucose champions' in a hospital from amongst nursing staff.
