What is it about?
Care home staff can sometimes have to overcome barriers in accessing specialist input for tissue viability. This quality improvement project supported a change to the referral pathway in 1 health board in Scotland.

Why is it important?
This is important as people are living longer with more complex health conditions and an increasing number of wound are being cared for. Having specialist support early in the management of wounds can reduced delays to wound healing.
Perspectives
I hope that this article can help other areas to consider opening access to specialist advice and support for the benefit of all. Developing this article allowed us to recognise the improvements we have made to help support our registered nurses in the care homes.
