What is it about?

This review looks into the Community Nursing use of a National Early Warning score tool which uses vital signs in the recognition of deteriorating conditions. Although recommended, the tool is not yet validated for community use. This review highlights some of the benefits both for patients and staff.

Why is it important?

Nursing care in peoples homes is becoming more complex and less consistent. There is a risk of not recognising deterioration. Nurses need an objective tool by which to recognise and quantify deterioration for escalation of concerns.

Perspectives

For me this study confirmed the safety of NEWS use in Community settings and highlights enough benefits for me to instigate it's use in Community Nursing locally.
